Theology of Body: Week 1
Posted on: 02/08/2010 03:35 PM
This is the lesson for the guys small groups Sunday the 14th. First is a list of theological themes that we want to form the discussion and second is the lessons questions and scripture. We are not expecting small group leaders to teach the theological themes but to discuss them on this forum prior to the lesson and then let them form our discussions and answers to questions.

WEEK 1
Body of Christ ? A journey through transformation
Theological Themes:
? Revealing Holy inter connectedness ? As we all are connected to God through creation and some through the work Christ did on the cross, we are therefore connected to each other as the Body of Christ!
? Jesus approach v Pharisee approach: Jesus focused on Grace and connectedness. His grace allowed people to be a part. Pharisee?s focused on judgment on naming the barriers that separated us.
? Image revealed and enjoyed in the inter connectedness: The imago dei is more fully revealed in community.
? Seeing others through the eyes of Christ: Practicing giving Grace by seeing others how Christ sees them.
? Transparency or Confession leading towards redemption: First step of heading towards redemption is Confession and realizing you are not hiding anything.
? Cultivating transparency as a means of Grace and invitation to genuine community.

? Point back towards the redemptive powers of the spirit working through the Body in groups like this.

Lesson:
Confession:
Throughout history people have been separated by barriers. Can you name some of these barriers?
What fears keep us separated from others? Can you share an example?
What fears hinder us from sharing struggles or failures? Can you share an example?
Are there certain people it is easier to talk with? Why?
Do you feel relieved after you talk with people?
Read Romans 12: 1-13
What would it mean for us to live this verse out in light of confession?
Let name this groups as a practice of the body of Christ!
Let?s start today by writing our fears, failures and/or struggles on a card?
Would any of you be willing to share them?
